Tahoe City, CA > This summer, families can enjoy the perfect adventure – a nine-day, fully guided Alaska Family Safari, exploring two of Alaska’s premier destinations, Denali National Park and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge – with the added bonus of kids traveling for half price. It’s a true wilderness immersion, with camping, river rafting, hiking, wildlife viewing, and much more.
Departing round trip from Anchorage, guests begin their journey with a scenic drive along Turnagain Arm, through the Chugach National Forest to the quaint community of Cooper Landing. Here, guests will stay at the Kenai Riverside Lodge for two nights, while venturing out to explore nearby Kenai Fjords National Park – a place rich in wildlife and scenic beauty with ample opportunities to witness whales, porpoise, sea lions, puffins, sea otters, and of course, glaciers.
Day three of this family adventure is spent rafting down the scenic Kenai River into the heart of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, where guests enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch before calling it a night at the beautiful Kenai Backcountry Lodge. And, rest they’ll need, because the next two days will be spent hiking and exploring this amazing and wildlife rich wilderness area.
On day five, guests journey north through the scenic Chugach National Forest and Chugach State Park to the funky and historic town of Talkeetna – gateway to the famous Alaska Range. Here, families can take an optional add-on flightseeing tour of Mt. McKinley or simply explore Talkeetna on their own, which is an adventure in itself.
The next day, guests continue their journey north, arriving at Denali National Park, where two nights of camping at the Savage River Campground will be a highlight of the trip. Here, families have three full days to explore surrounding trails on hikes suited to their level of adventure as well as enjoy a scenic drive through Denali National Park in search of wildlife including caribou, moose, Dall sheep, grizzly bears, resident and migratory birds – and weather permitting, Mt. McKinley herself. All the while, guides are on hand to share their knowledge of the region as well as specially prepare all of the gourmet meals while at the campsite.
On the final leg of the trip, guests enjoy a scenic ride aboard the legendary Alaska Railroad as they make their way back Anchorage, where the journey ends.

About AdventureSmith Explorations
AdventureSmith Explorations specializes in small ship cruise expeditions and wilderness tours. Company founder Todd Smith pioneered the concept of wilderness cruising – combining the comforts of a small cruise ship with the adventure of sea kayaking and exploring ashore in remote wilderness areas. Founded in 2003, AdventureSmith Explorations strives to create connections with the world's exotic natural environments and native cultures through travel, combining fun and exciting activities such as sea kayaking, hiking, small ship cruising and rafting in places not found on more conventional itineraries; extraordinary, off-the-beaten-path places in such destinations as Alaska, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Belize, Ecuador and the Galapagos, Guatemala, the Arctic, Antarctica and New Zealand.
In addition to the company’s Carbon Free Cruising campaign, it is AdventureSmith’s mission to give something back to the individuals, communities and environments encountered on every trip through connecting travelers with a network of grassroots and global nonprofit partners worldwide including the Alaska Natural History Association, Neotropica Foundation, and Galapagos Conservancy, among others.
