Last year, in the early stages of the country's economic downturn, the travel industry saw a move toward people vacationing closer to home rather than splashing out on costly interstate travel plans. This year, that trend will continue as holiday makers seek more affordable travel options.

Despite months of record high gasoline prices and a weakening 4th quarter economy, New Jersey’s tourism industry posted solid 2008 revenue figures. Business owners from Long Beach Island, on the Jersey Shore, are again predicting a high volume of visitors this summer, as vacationers choose less expensive family getaways.

“In the wake of September 11 we definitely saw an increase in the number of visitors to the area. People did not want to get on a plane” says Emma Lapsansky, owner of Minerva’s By The Sea, a Bed & Breakfast in Barnegat Light. “And now, even though we are in the midst of a recession, I’m fielding more inquiries from holiday makers than usual. Families can’t afford to spend a week in Hawaii right now but they still want to go to the beach and coming here is a getaway that won’t break the bank.”

Secretary of State, Nina Mitchell Wells is in agreement “One of New Jersey’s greatest advantages is that it is less than a tank of gas away for more than 91 million people, making it an economical option for cost-conscious consumers.”

Located at the northern tip of New Jersey's Long Beach Island, in the shadow one of New Jersey's tallest lighthouses, Minerva's By the Sea is beautifully situated in the unspoiled, un-commercial, and often un-crowded sector of this wonderful barrier island on the Jersey Shore. Nestled away in the tranquil ambiance of a traditional fishing village of Barnegat Light, Minerva’s Bed & Breakfast entices with comfortable lodgings, warm hospitality, good food and of course, it’s proximity to the healing qualities of the sea.

Beaches - New Jersey's crown jewel remains the 127 miles of coastline, spanning from Sandy Hook to Cape May. The unmatched beaches boast beautiful barrier islands and bays dotted with majestic lighthouses, fishing villages and scenic views.

Casinos - Luxurious hotels and casino resorts are brimming with top-name entertainment, world-class dining, premium shopping, entertaining attractions and more.

Spas - Say goodbye to tension and fatigue as you escape into a world of natural beauty. Restore, relax and rejuvenate your body and soul and find yourself in a serene and tranquil state you deserve!

Wineries - Nestled among rolling hills, situated on some of the most beautiful countryside the coastal grapes crave, wineries can thank New Jersey's gentle winds and fruitful soil for contributing to the delicate process of producing high-quality wines. With over thirty wineries located throughout the state, don't tour just one - visit them all!

With expanses of clean beach, tasteful shopping, restaurants with tasty fare, and located only two hours from New York City and Philadelphia, it’s easy to understand why this family owned and operated B&B has become the top choice for the perfect weekend getaway or summer break. Minerva’s B&B has something to offer all visitors. From the quiet wing for guests who seek seclusion to the copious library and the complimentary bikes and beach chairs, your hosts will ensure you have everything you need to make your stay relaxing and memorable. Minerva’s B&B will launch their summer season with their “Women’s Renewal Weekend” held 15th to 17th May. In its ninth year, the annual tradition promises a relaxing and pampering weekend for mothers, daughters, sisters and friends to enjoy.
