MANY STILL TAKING VACATIONS DESPITE THE RECESSION

04-09-2009

Last year, in the early stages of the country's economic downturn, the travel industry saw a move toward people vacationing closer to home rather than splashing out on costly interstate travel plans. This year, that trend will continue as holiday makers seek more affordable travel options.

Despite months of record high gasoline prices and a weakening 4th quarter economy, New Jersey’s tourism industry posted solid 2008 revenue figures. Business owners from Long Beach Island, on the Jersey Shore, are again predicting a high volume of visitors this summer, as vacationers choose less expensive family getaways.

“In the wake of September 11 we definitely saw an increase in the number of visitors to the area. People did not want to get on a plane” says Emma Lapsansky, owner of Minerva’s By The Sea, a Bed & Breakfast in Barnegat Light. “And now, even though we are in the midst of a recession, I’m fielding more inquiries from holiday makers than usual. Families can’t afford to spend a week in Hawaii right now but they still want to go to the beach and coming here is a getaway that won’t break the bank.”

Secretary of State, Nina Mitchell Wells is in agreement “One of New Jersey’s greatest advantages is that it is less than a tank of gas away for more than 91 million people, making it an economical option for cost-conscious consumers.”

Located at the northern tip of New Jersey's Long Beach Island, in the shadow one of New Jersey's tallest lighthouses, Minerva's By the Sea is beautifully situated in the unspoiled, un-commercial, and often un-crowded sector of this wonderful barrier island on the Jersey Shore. Nestled away in the tranquil ambiance of a traditional fishing village of Barnegat Light, Minerva’s Bed & Breakfast entices with comfortable lodgings, warm hospitality, good food and of course, it’s proximity to the healing qualities of the sea.
