TO NINE-DAY ‘CITY OF LIGHTS’ CRUISE-TOUR SAILINGS IN JULY AND
AUGUST
Guests aboard Five-Star MV Cezanne stay at the deluxe Saint-Lazare Concorde Hotel either before or after cruise
New York, April 2009 -- Peter Deilmann Cruises is including a free "Discovery Package" for guests joining the “City of Lights” nine-day cruise-tour in July and August -- two complimentary hotel nights, pre- or post-cruise, at the deluxe St. Lazare Concorde, breakfast daily, a city tour and transfers between the ship and the hotel. Set in the heart of Paris's cultural quarter and famous shopping area of Boulevard Haussmann, the 19th-century hotel, meticulously restored in 1989, offers short walks to nearby sights including the Louvre and Place de la Concorde. These two extra nights are in addition to two nights spent onboard the intimate and elegant 100-guest MV Cezanne in the heart of Paris, preceding the cruise along the Seine River. The complimentary "Discovery Package," representing a value of $399 per person, is being offered on weekly Friday U.S. departures in July and August, 2009; some restrictions apply. Cruise-tour fares of $2,515 to $3,395 per person, double, include the two free hotel nights in Paris, five complimentary excursions, accommodations in outside staterooms, and all meals onboard ship.
The two nights spent in Paris onboard the MV Cezanne offers guests extensive sightseeing opportunities with included tours that take in the Arc de Triomphe, built in the early 18th century by Napoleon; the Sacre-Coeur Basilica, a majestic church set on the highest point of the city; the iconic Eiffel Tower, one of Paris’ most spectacular evening sites; and the Louvre Museum, arguably one of the finest museums in the world. The cruise then heads off to Les Andelys, where a tour of Chateau Gaillard, built by Richard the Lion Hearted in 1197 as a stronghold against the Normans, offers a glimpse of Northern France's fascinating history. A full-day excursion from the port of Caudebec-en-Caux deals with more recent history -- the beaches of Normandy; the Caen Memorial Museum, with its exceptional D-Day documentation; Omaha Beach, where American infantrymen fought against staggering odds; Pointe du Hoc, another battleground to the west of Omaha beach; and the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, set above Omaha Beach, where more than 9,000 American soldiers are interred.
Rouen, a 2,000-year-old Norman city that was home to the Gustave Flaubert, author of “Madame Bovary,” offers passengers extraordinary Gothic architecture and half-timbered houses on a tour that also visits the site where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. At the equally charming Giverny, boasting a Roman church and small cobbled streets, guests embark on excursions to the home and gardens of the Impressionist Claude Monet.
The fully air-conditioned MV Cezanne, completely renovated in 2006, is a five-star luxury vessel with 50 large staterooms, sun decks and stylish public rooms that include an elegant restaurant, bar, lounge and library. Award-winning cuisine on board is exemplified by the seven- to nine-course evening meal. Mid-afternoon tea and coffee is served every day on deck and in the lounge and there is a late evening buffet. The friendly, multi-lingual staffs, which includes a medical doctor, cater to passengers’ every wish – and offer a high level of service with one crew member per 2.5 passengers. Captain’s Welcome and Farewell Champagne Receptions bookend nightly entertainment and dancing. A non-smoking policy applies to the interiors of all Peter Deilmann river vessels. Port charges of $120 per person are additional.
