St. Michaels, Md., April 21, 2009 – Travelers seeking a quintessential escape to Maryland’s scenic Chesapeake Bay can experience the finest offerings of the region with Five Gables Inn & Spa’s Spa & Sail package. Available May 1 through November 16, 2009, the package offers guests the opportunity to go sailing, relax with a massage for two, and savor the area’s famed blue crabs.

Travelers will enjoy a history lesson of sorts aboard the oldest working skipjack on Chesapeake Bay, the legendary Rebecca T. Ruark. With Captain Wade Murphy at the helm, guests will enjoy a two-hour sail while being educated on the heritage and ecology of the bay, as well as the history of skipjack boats, which were first developed in the 1800s specifically for oyster dredging on the Chesapeake Bay.

As a complement to this nautical adventure, the package includes a one-hour massage for two at St. Michaels’ only Aveda Concept Spa, a dozen crabs and a pitcher of beer at The Crab Claw restaurant, overlooking St. Michaels Harbor.

The new Five Gables Inn & Spa package is priced from $570 midweek (Sun. – Thurs.) and $770 weekends (Fri. and Sat.), based on double occupancy, and includes two nights’ accommodations in a room with a whirlpool tub, gas fireplace and private porch. Guests also receive daily Continental breakfast and a discount to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, located just a short stroll away.

Situated on 18 waterfront acres, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum offers a glimpse into the history and culture of the bay and the people who have shaped their lives around it. While guests are not boating or indulging at the spa, they can enjoy the myriad of boutiques, galleries, antique stores and restaurants dotting Talbot Street in St. Michaels. Five Gables Inn also provides bicycles for exploring the scenic Eastern Shore community.
