GET TO KNOW CHOCOLATE IN THE HERSHEY HARRISBURG REGION

04-23-2009

Three new attractions now offer visitors opportunity to experience and experiment with chocolate

Harrisburg, PA (April. 14, 2009) – Mary Smith, President of the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau today announced that the addition of the new Hershey’s® Chocolate Tasting Adventure at Hershey’s® Chocolate World® attraction now gives visitors to the region a third experiential way to learn and interact with Hershey’s Chocolate.

“Visitors are seeking engaging and experiential activities on their family vacations,” Smith said. “By combining visits to The Chocolate Lab and Countries of Origin Chocolate Tasting available at The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue with the new Hershey’s Chocolate Tasting Adventure now being offered at Hershey’s Chocolate World attraction, families are guaranteed to come away from a summer vacation in our region with fond memories and a new found appreciation for the taste, texture, and technology that makes up their favorite Hershey’s candy treats.”

Visitors to Hershey’s Chocolate Tasting Adventure at Hershey’s Chocolate World attraction will enjoy an entertaining live class led by chocolate experts Dr. T. Vanderbean and Dr. Livingston McNib that include a multimedia presentation on chocolate lore, complete with wonderful artifacts from the world’s best cacao growing regions.  Participants will explore their inner chocolatier as they participate in a guided tasting experience that awakens their senses to see, smell, hear, feel and taste the differences and distinctions within the sampled chocolates.  After completing Hershey’s Chocolate Tasting Adventure, all attendees receive an official Masters Degree in Chocolate Tasting from Hershey’s University.

Hershey’s Chocolate Tasting Adventure is just $9.95 for adults and $6.95 for children age 3-12.  A special senior rate of $9.45 is available, as well as reduced priced group packages. Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office inside Hershey’s Chocolate World attraction.  Discount combo-ticket packages are available for both Hershey’s Chocolate Tasting Adventure and Hershey’s Really Big 3D Show™ attraction.

Visitors are immersed at the new Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue in a series of engaging exhibits, highlighted with the Chocolate Lab where visitors learn about the art and science of making chocolate in a fun and authentic laboratory setting.  This attraction, inspired by Milton Hershey’s own candy-making apprenticeship and his flair for experimentation, guarantees to bring out the child in all of us by utilizing playful, hands-on experiences aimed at teaching the techniques of tempering, molding, dipping and even making chocolate from scratch.

Two classes being offered include “Where in the World?” and “The Art of Chocolate”, and range in price from $7.50 for Juniors (ages 4-12), $9 for Seniors (62+), to $10 for adults, with discounts available for combination tickets to the Lab class and Museum Experience.  AAA discounts also apply to regular/senior/junior rates and group rates are available.

In the “Where in the World?” class session, visitors learn some delicious geography by finding out more about the many places around the globe where cocoa beans are grown.  Participants are guided to recognize differences in cocoa beans' appearance and taste and make their own unique bar to take home.  This class is best suited for families with children ages 8 and up and for adults.

“The Art of Chocolate” class answers questions like “What makes dark chocolate dark and white chocolate white?”  This class gives participants a rare look at a real cocoa pod, beans and nibs, and other ingredients of chocolate.  After getting the inside scoop on what makes chocolate so tasty, visitors create their own "abstract art" by using three types of chocolates to form a design. This class is suitable for families with children ages 4 and up.

Countries of Origin Chocolate Tasting at Café Zooka in The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate promises to give visitors the chance to enjoy warm drinking chocolate samples.  From fruity African chocolate flavors to Indonesian chocolate with caramel overtones, guests can hone their skills as cocoa connoisseurs… or simply enjoy a taste of indulgence from around the world.  Countries of Origin Chocolate Tasting at The Hershey Story is a treat for the taste buds and the perfect way to immerse yourself in the sweet world that inspired Milton Hershey.  Countries of Origin Chocolate Tasting: $9.95.
