Travelers Vote for Madagascar as Friendly Planet Travel's Next Exotic Destination

Jenkintown, Pa.-April 23, 2009-Where on Earth do you want to go next? That was the question Friendly Planet Travel asked consumers earlier this year. When the poll closed this month, a whopping 6,780 people had voted on 12 proposed exotic locations featured on the nationwide discount tour operator's Web site. Topping the poll: magnificent Madagascar, with 941 votes. Antarctica came in a close second, trailing by 31 votes at 910. In third place was the Ireland and Scotland tour, with 836 votes.

The survey's other tour options included, in order of popularity, Croatia, Bali, Brazil, Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea, Norway and Sweden, France, Philippines, and Belize. The complete results are available on Friendly Planet Travel's blog.

"No matter what tour people would have chosen, we would have been thrilled to produce it, but it was especially exciting to discover Madagascar was the popular choice," says Peggy Goldman, President of Friendly Planet Travel. "Madagascar's remote location makes it a vacation destination not commonly offered by tour operators, much less at discounted prices. Of course, we'll be bringing the entire Friendly Planet Travel experience into creating this new program that our vacationers have come to know and trust."

Madagascar is a naturalist's paradise, home to more than 150,000 plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth. The Malagasy population is a diverse blend of African, Asian, Arabian, French, Indian, and Creole cultures, to name a few. This sets the country apart as a unique destination for its shopping, dining, beautiful pristine beaches, and rich and diverse culture.

Friendly Planet Travel's Madagascar vacation will feature all the comfort and affordability travelers have come to expect from the national discount tour operator, including roundtrip airfare, transfers, superior and deluxe accommodations, some meals, expertly guided tours, and more. The Madagascar tour is already being planned by the company, and will join the list of budget-priced Friendly Planet Travel offerings early next year.
