Perhaps more than ever this summer, travelers coming to New York will be looking for a fun escape – and what better way than to turn back the clock to what many consider the greatest year ever in film history?  Hollywood’s Greatest Year: The Best Picture Nominees of 1939 is part of the Academy’s monthly Monday Nights With Oscar® film series. The 10-film event, which includes Monday night screenings and Saturday afternoon double features, offers movie lovers an opportunity to enjoy some of the world’s best-loved films on the big screen.

**All films will be preceded by one of the year’s animated shorts and a chapter of the 1939 serial BUCK ROGERS, starring Buster Crabbe and Constance Moore.

Note: The “Monday Nights With Oscar” June 15 screening will be GUNGA DIN featuring a behind-the-scenes presentation by two of Hollywood’s most influential special effects experts: Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor, Craig Barron (CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, STAR WARS, ET) and Oscar-winning sound designer, Ben Burtt (WALL-E, STAR WARS, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK).

Screenings will be held at the Academy Theater located at Lighthouse International in New York City, and because the Academy Foundation funds these events, they’re offered at the nominal price of $5 for the general public ($3 for students with valid ID).
