THE WORLD OFFERS WEST COAST CULINARY EXCURSIONS

MIRAMAR, F.L., May 14, 2009 – The World, the first and only private residential community at sea, is launching a series of culinary excursions from May 31 – June 13 as the ship traverses the coast of California and visits Seattle.  Beginning in San Diego, The World will then dock in Los Angeles, Monterey and San FranciscoParticipants can enjoy tasting regionally produced wines, al fresco dining, private tours and more at each port.  Culinary excursions include:

 

·         Thornton Winery with Chris Botti Concert, May 31, San Diego:  Producing premium varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and sparkling wines, this award-winning winery is also known for its series of Champagne Jazz Concerts.  Participants will enjoy the rich sounds of jazz trumpeter and composer, Chris Botti while indulging in a three-course gourmet meal under the stars.  Rates begin at $310 per person.

 

·         Carmel Valley Wine Tasting, June 8, Monterey:  This excursion includes two of Carmel Valley’s finest wineries.  The day will begin at Château Julien Wine Estate, where Residents and Guests will receive a private tour and tasting.  Participants will end their excursion at Ventana Vineyards Monterey tasting room with a wine and culinary sampling of artisan cheeses, charcuterie and fresh fruit on Ventana’s terrace.  Rates begin at $140 per person.

 

·         A Taste of San Francisco, June 11, San Francisco:  One of the nation’s favorite “foodie” destinations, San Francisco offers an abundance of restaurants and local markets, including the recently opened Ferry Building Marketplace.  Lisa Rogovin, Ferry Building Marketplace’s Epicurean Concierge, will lead a culinary walking tour of the marketplace that is sure satiate every palette with stops for fresh oysters, artisanal cheeses, olive oil, pastries and gourmet chocolates.  Rates begin at $110 per person.

 

·         Racecar Driving and Winemaking Dinner, June 11, San Francisco:  TRG and Adobe Road Winery invite passengers for an unforgettable Sonoma county experience.  The excursion includes driving a TRG Porsche Race Car, Open Wheel Formula Russell Car, coaching sessions with racing fundamentals, right seat rides with a professional driver at full speed and a four-star meal and barrel sampling at Adobe Road Winery’s tasting room.  Rates being at $xx per person.

 

·         Grgich Hills Winery Exclusive Luncheon, June 12, San FranciscoThis exclusive excursion offers participants the opportunity to relive Napa Valley history.  Croatian famed winemaker, Mike Grgich, began winemaking in Napa Valley in 1958, establishing his own winery in 1977.  After a private tour with Ivo Jeramaz, Mike Grgich’s nephew and Winemaker, Residents and Guests will enjoy an al fresco lunch accompanied by a selection of Grgich wines.  Rates begin at $210 per person.

 

·         Napa Valley Wineries Overnight:  Residents and Guests can opt to trade their sea-faring suites for a night in the heart of wine country at The Carneros Inn.  Surrounded by lush farmland, grape vines and apple orchards, the cottage-style accommodations boast fireplaces, al fresco showers and a spa menu inspired by local ingredients.  Rates begin at $1,490 per person.  Overnight excursions include:
