palm Beach COUNTY, Fla., June 5, 2009 – Palm Beach County, “America’s First Resort Destination,” is South Florida’s epicenter this year, with area hotels, restaurants and attractions offering themed (1909 Founders Packages) through December. Below is a sampling of events and festivals taking place over the next six months. A comprehensive list of activities throughout the year can be found at palmbeachfl.com.

 

Turtle Walks - June & July, 2009 - Juno Beach: Hosted by the Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Turtle Walks allow visitors to observe the nesting process of Loggerhead Turtles without disrupting their delicate habitat. The walks are held at 9:00 a.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

 

West Palm Beach Antiques Festival – June 5-7, Nov. 6-8, Dec. 4-6, 2009: Held at the Americraft Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds, this annual event is known as one of Florida’s largest and best antique shows in the United States. Attracting dealers from all over the country, the show features a vast array of antiques, collectibles and decorative accessories.

 

Art and Jazz on the Avenue - June 25, August 20, October 22 and December 3, 2009 - Delray Beach: Every year the streets of Downtown Delray Beach come alive with the sounds of music and the sights of art during Art & Jazz on Atlantic Avenue, which features live entertainment, art exhibits and demonstrations.

 

Florida State Baseball League Season - June 1-September 6, 2009 - Jupiter: Roger Dean Stadium, located in Jupiter’s Abacoa Town Center, is the only stadium in the country to host two minor league baseball teams throughout the year – both the Jupiter Hammerheads and West Palm Beach Cardinals. Call the stadium home for family fun during the summer season.

 

Fourth on Flagler - July 4, 2009 - West Palm Beach: Celebrate the Centennial of Palm Beach County and our nation’s birthday on the downtown waterfront. Listen to live music, tour the newly unveiled city docks and view a spectacular fireworks display. 

 

Spady Living Heritage Festival - August 22, 2009 - Delray Beach: Each summer, the Spady Museum hosts a Heritage Festival to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the African-American community in South Palm Beach County.  This all-day affair includes live musical performances, dancing and worship services.

 

2009 GOODE Water Ski National Championships, August 11-15, 2009 – Okeeheelee Park, West Palm Beach:  A traditional three-event water skiing competition (slalom, trick and jump), the event has 20 age divisions  ranging from under age 6 to over age 80 for both male and female.  Approximately 900 adult and youth participants are expected to travel to Palm Beach County for the event.

 

Citrus Nationals, Palm Beach International Raceway - November 27-29, 2009 - Jupiter: Spectators will enjoy watching blown-alcohol and injected-nitro dragsters battle for top prizes during this NHRA National Open, taking place at the newly renovated Palm Beach International Raceway.

 

Annual Marathon of the Palm Beaches - December 4-6, 2009 -West Palm Beach: This three day event begins with a Publix Health and Fitness Expo, followed by a 5K Kids’ Race. The main event takes place on the third day with a bike tour, marathon, half marathon and team relay.

 

33rd Annual Holiday Boat Parade, December 19, 2009 – Boca Raton:  This popular holiday parade that includes a “spectacular traveling fireworks display,” features 50+ beautifully decorated boats that make their way from Delray Beach to Boca Raton via the Intracoastal Waterway.
