The Ultimate Journey – A 6 Week Trans Europe Cruise

07-22-2009

On the luxury hotel barge 'Anjodi' made famous by celebrity chef Rick Stein

WINDSOR, ENGLAND, July 22, 2009 - European Waterways are offering a very special voyage aboard luxury hotel barge 'Anjodi' on which passengers will experience a unique 1,000 mile, 6 week adventure along the canals and rivers of central Europe, from Avignon in Provence all the way to the vibrant city of Amsterdam in Holland.

Anjodi is the hotel barge that achieved “film star” status following her many appearances during the hugely popular BBC TV series 'Rick Stein’s French Odyssey', when she carried celebrity chef Rick Stein and a full film crew, on a 400-mile voyage of culinary discovery through South West France.

This unique 6 week cruise takes in famous cities such as Lyon, Paris and Cologne, the local highlights and culture along famous rivers such as the Rhone, Seine and Rhine, and enchanting smaller waterways such as the Canal de Bourgogne. This extraordinary adventure will be a mixture of days spent cruising, sight seeing and city stays whilst discovering the regional cuisine and wines of Provence, Beaujolais, Burgundy, Champagne, Alsace and the Moselle and Rhine valleys.

The voyage also follows the advance of the American, British and allied forces liberating the French, Belgium and Dutch populations in World War II. It passes through regions held by the French resistance, areas liberated by Allied Forces and near towns like Arnhem fought over by the airborne forces in operation Market Garden. It is an incredible, unfolding journey for those interested in the historical importance of the period  following the D-day landings of June 1944.

Anjodi is a hotel barge of classic Dutch design. She has been completely refurbished in the tasteful tradition of Africa hardwoods, hand-crafted panelling and shining brass, to create a comfortable and charming ambience reminiscent of a classic yacht. The well planned accommodation offers a choice of four air-conditioned twin/double staterooms, each with full en-suite facilities. The shaded sun deck is unusually spacious, with a heated sunken jacuzzi and teak deck furniture.

As with all European Waterways' cruises, delicious gourmet meals will be expertly prepared by the on board chef, complimented by excellent regional wines and an open bar. The majority of meals are taken aboard, but at least once a week passengers dine ashore.

This amazing Trans Europe cruise is available at a price per person of US$25,000 based on a minimum of 6 passengers, or as a whole barge charter for US$185,000. Rates include all meals, wines, open bar, excursions, admittance fees and transfers.

Derek Banks, European Waterways' Managing Director said, "This amazing Trans-Europe cruise aboard Anjodi is a fascinating 100o mile journey of discovery and  I can personally assure our guests that it will be the experience of a lifetime."

NOTES

European Waterways is the largest luxury hotel barging company in Europe, offering 6-night/7-day cruises in seven countries and carrying around 2,000 passengers a year.

We have built a reputation for providing high quality barging holidays on our ‘floating boutique hotels’ to a discerning clientele in search of a truly unique experience – a far cry from narrowboating.

Founded over 35 years ago, European Waterways design, build, own and operate a private fleet of luxury vessels that have been converted from classic working Dutch barges and offer exclusive cruises in France, Scotland, England, Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Italy.

Our hotel barges accommodate between 4 and 12 passengers and are ideal for people looking for either an individual cruise with other like-minded people, or for those wanting a whole barge charter for a family or group of friends.

European Waterways' hotel barge cruises include accommodation aboard in air-conditioned, ensuite cabins, gourmet meals, fine wines, an open bar and all excursions.

All our vessels are fully crewed with a Captain, gourmet chef, hostess and tour guide, with a private air-conditioned mini-bus taking passengers on excursions.

We offer well-planned and interesting daily itineraries that give passengers the opportunity to visit cultural and historical places of interest, vineyards and markets in each region.

We also offer tandem cruises for larger parties and a wide selection of themed cruises, such as wine appreciation, golf and we even offer honeymoon charters on three barges.

European Waterways was the first company to put a barge on the Upper Nivernais Canal in Burgundy, and in the "real" Loire Valley. We are also the only company with barges in Scotland and in the Venetian lagoon, as well as the first to offer an Avignon-to-Amsterdam 6 week trans-Europe cruise.
