Lake Powell Resort Announces Rainbow Bridge Centennial Commemoration Youth Art Contest

07-30-2009

Rainbow Bridge, one of the world’s largest natural bridges, located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, is considered one of the most inspiring sights in the United States. So much so that President William Howard Taft designated it a National Monument in 1910 to preserve the landmark for generations. Today, people from all over the world travel to Lake Powell to visit Rainbow Bridge and see the beauty firsthand.

To encourage America’s youth to learn about the history of Rainbow Bridge National Monument and commemorate the monument’s centennial in 2010, Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas is hosting a Rainbow Bridge Centennial Commemoration Youth Art Contest to inspire kids to express their artistic appreciation for Rainbow Bridge National Monument.

The contest invites kids ages 5-11 (Category 1) and 12-16 (Category 2) to submit an art project to Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas for consideration by October 30, 2009*. The entry should be a creative expression of the Centennial’s theme: “Rainbow Bridge: Spanning Cultures in a Sacred Landscape.”

Entries will be judged by representatives of Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas on their originality and creative interpretation of the Rainbow Bridge Centennial theme. Participants must be in the age group they submit their entry for as of October 30, 2009 and the winning selections will be chosen no later than December 1, 2009.

The winner of each age category and his or her family will receive a free vacation package that includes two nights’ accommodations at Lake Powell Resort, breakfast buffet daily for four, a half-day Rainbow Bridge Boat Cruise for four, and a Lake Powell t-shirt and hat for the winner.
