MARYLAND OFFICE OF TOURISM’S SPOTLIGHT INVITES PHOTOGRAPHERS TO SHARE THEIR MARYLAND TREASURES

08-11-2009

Program Leverages New & Traditional Media to Highlight Maryland Destinations & Attractions

BALTIMORE, MD (August 11, 2009) – The Maryland Office of Tourism announced an online campaign that encourages residents and visitors to post photos of their Maryland memories on the photo sharing site Flickr to be eligible to win a Maryland Getaway.

Beginning today and running through Labor Day, users may post as many pictures as they wish from their travels in Maryland during the summer. The photographers are invited to post their images to www.flickr.com/groups/travelMD. The Maryland Office of Tourism and the Maryland Arts Council will select the top 20 photos, which will then be moved to www.visitmaryland.org, where users can vote for their favorites. The photo with the most votes by September 21, the last day of summer, wins a Maryland getaway.

“We are very excited to add social media to our marketing efforts and believe it will help us reach a whole new audience,” said Margot A. Amelia, executive director of the Maryland Office of Tourism. “The digital world has opened up tremendous opportunities to engage directly with residents, visitors and those who just want to learn more about the State of Maryland. We are looking forward to hearing from them, in their own words and photos, what makes Maryland such a special place.”
