2009 Official Paul Bunyan Show

09-01-2009

October 2-4 event to feature logging competitions, equipment, and more

COLUMBUS, OHIO (September 1, 2009) – The Official Paul Bunyan ShowSM, one of the nation’s largest and oldest forest industry trade shows, announced its 2009 schedule of events slated for October 2-4, 2009 at the Guernsey County Fairgrounds just outside of Cambridge (Old Washington), Ohio.

Visitors to the Show will find more than 130 exhibitors who represent all facets of the forest industry throughout North America.  Representatives will be on site to showcase equipment, manpower and the dedication that has made the industry what it is today.

“The Paul Bunyan Show is a premiere forestry trade show dedicated to the promotion of Ohio’s forest products industry that contributes $15.1 billion to Ohio’s economy. Show goers will see an incredible display of wood industry equipment and technology,” said Walt Lange, Ohio Forestry Association, Inc.  president and Paul Bunyan Show education coordinator. “The PBS education presentations this year range from how to properly maintain a piece of equipment to a history of the restoration of the bald eagle in Ohio.”

Established in 1957 and organized by the Ohio Forestry Association, Inc. (OFA), the Official Paul Bunyan ShowSM is believed to be the oldest forestry industry show of its kind in the eastern United States and annually attracts thousands of visitors from Ohio and surrounding states. The event’s primary focus is to provide access to the current knowledge and technology of forestry products and industry which enhances the quality of life and market competitiveness of individuals, families, industries, and communities.

Husqvarna and the Ohio News Network (ONN) are the official title sponsors of the three-day event. American Electric Power (AEP) and Central Power will serve as the official sponsors for event competitions. Entertainment will be sponsored by John Deere, Red Rock Enterprises, and Nortrax Great Lakes. Educational seminars and activities are sponsored by Yoder Lumber.

New to the event this year is The Game of Logging Professional, Landowner and Collegiate National Finals. The Game of Logging (GOL) is widely acknowledged as the premier timber harvesting training program in the country, offering hands on training in a competitive environment.  Top instructors across the country combine demonstration with participation to teach safety, productivity, conservation and cutting techniques. There are currently 16 training organizations that cover 30 states. Regional competitions are held annually by each training organization followed by a national competition for professional loggers as well as collegiate and landowner participants.

At this time GOL offers four levels of chainsaw safety training, as well as skidder, forwarder, clearing saw and gentle logging training. The training is offered to professional loggers, foresters, college students, forest landowners, casual users, city-parks and utility workers, firemen, and anyone interested in learning any of the safety techniques.
