“Da Vinci – An Exhibition of Genius” Debuting in Macau

11-20-2007

New York, NY, November 19– On December 1, 2007, history will be made when “Da Vinci – An Exhibition of Genius” debuts in Macau. The exhibition will be held at Macau Tower from December 2007 to February 2008. Consisting of  15 designated zones in 20,000 sq. ft., the exhibit is surrounded by distinctly Renaissance decorations.  Visitors will be able to experience first-hand Leonardo’s exploits in arts and science via interactive exhibits and displays.

Since 2006, the all-embracing collection has traveled the world to showcase the full repertoire of Leonardo’s genius, stopping in cities like Moscow, Melbourne, San Francisco and Rio de Janeiro and attracting close to 1.5 million visitors worldwide.

Over the past decade, a group of Italian artisans meticulously studied Leonardo’s codices and created over 200 models of his inventions in anatomy, optics, flight, hydraulics, music and mechanics, making this exhibition a reality.  Around one-third of the machines are interactive to enhance the experience. Fascinating 3D animations looking into the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, Vitruvian Man and Leonardos remarkable Sforza horse sculpture are also presented, along with an audio guide to help guests negotiate their way through Leonardo’s works.

The exhibition shows for the first time in Asia a collection of unique photographs of the Mona Lisa. Commissioned by The Louvre Museum, French engineer Pascal Cotte used a high-res multi spectral camera to uncover details beyond human vision, illustrating how the painting actually looked like in 1506.  Twenty five secrets have been revealed in 2007, including: a blotch near one eye likely to be damaged by water in Napoleon’s bathroom, the bluer sky and greener trees behind her, the presence of eyebrows and eyelashes.
