Stillwater Minnesota's HarvestFest Features Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off Oct 10th

09-10-2009

Event Includes Chili Feed, Beer Tasting, Contests and Caves Tours

Stillwater, MN Stillwater will host its third annual HarvestFest on Saturday, October 10th from 10 am to 5 pm. The highlight of the festival includes a Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off in which farmers from surrounding states bring in their biggest gourds to vie for the honor of heaviest pumpkin. The weigh-off takes place in Lowell Park from 12-3 pm, with the awards ceremony at 4 pm. Last year’s winner weighed over 1,400 pounds!

Visitors can sample fare from the Chili Cook-off for amateurs and professionals beginning at noon and a microbrewery Beer Tasting near the Lift Bridge which includes Stillwater’s Lift Bridge Beer. Proceeds from the tastings benefit Valley Outreach. Festival-goers can enter pumpkin decorating and baking contests, watch master pumpkin carvers and vegetable artists at work and enjoy live bluegrass music. If you’d rather join in the action, try your hand at the pedal tractor pull or mini-pumpkin decorating. Kids or kids at heart will also enjoy face painting and historic and haunted cave tours. Trolley rides and gondola rides will also available, and are a great way to enjoy Stillwater’s peak fall colors.

Those wishing to enter the pumpkin decorating contest should drop off painted or carved pumpkins to INSTUDIO at 212 North Main Street on Oct 10 from 10 am to 3 pm. There will be categories for ages 12 and under and 13 and up. The winners will receive a mini photo session with their pumpkin. Prizes will also be available for the three runners up in each category.
