The March of the Terra Cotta Warriors

09-11-2009

TenPenh partners with National Geographic to “spice up” the exhibit

From November 19, 2009-March 31, 2010, fifteen of the thousands of Terra Cotta Warriors, Guardians of China’s First Emperor, will be exhibited at The National Geographic Society in Washington D.C. To welcome the life-sized figures with open arms, TenPenh, the area’s premier pan-Asian fine dining restaurant located just steps from the White House, will feature special events as well as lunch and dinner specials spanning the duration of their stay.  Each week, starting November 2, TenPenh’s Chef de Cuisine Cliff Wharton will offer a Terra Cotta Pot lunch special and the Emperor’s Choice three-course prix fixe dinner that will showcase a different spice prominent in Chinese cuisine. Dishes including the Sichuanese Braised Fish in Spicy Sauce, will feature spices such as chives, Chinese pepper, cinnamon and coriander that date back to the era of the Warriors’ creation as early as 200 B.C.

To bless diners with longevity and immortality, TenPenh will also offer The Immortal, a cocktail created just for the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibition that features ginger, green tea, and a mystery liqueur that may just extend and enhance your life!

Lastly, to encourage Chinese cuisine and home cooks in the area, TenPenh will host a cooking class with noted Chinese chef and cookbook author Susanna Foo on Saturday, November 21, from 11am-1pm. The amazing costumed mascot of the exhibition, ‘The Warrior,” will be present at the cooking class in November and again on December 8 from 7pm-8pm for photo opportunities and to protect all diners.

TenPenh is a local partner of the National Geographic Society’s presentation of Terra Cotta Warriors. The award-winning restaurant is located at the corner of 10th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., near the Navy Memorial/Archives Metro stop. Call (202) 393-4500 for reservations.
