TAMARACK FEATURED IN WEST VIRGINIA CULINARY TOUR

10-21-2009

BECKLY, WV (October 21, 2009) - TAMARACK: The Best of West Virginia will be featured in a culinary tour of the New River Gorge area on November 21 – 22, 2009.

Gourmet on the Gorge is offering a two-day gourmet food tour of the New River Gorge region that will include food and wine tastings, two cooking classes and a performance of Julia Child by Karen Vuranch. Registration will take place on Friday evening at Gourmet on the Gorge in Fayetteville, West Virginia with appetizers and wine.

“This is the first year for the event and we really wanted people to experience all of the wonderful things that West Virginia has to offer,” Karen Vuranch said. “Along with West Virginia’s natural beauty we have gourmet food, skilled performers and talented artisans and crafters! Tamarack showcases all three, offering talented West Virginians the opportunity to showcase their skills and products.”

The tour will begin on Saturday with a visit to the Canyon Rim National Park Visitor Center north of Fayetteville, WV to see the stunning views of the New River Gorge. Participants will tour Blue Smoke Salsa in Ansted, WV, sample salsa and then have gourmet pizzas for lunch at Pies and Pints. The tour will continue with food sampling at four retail shops in Fayetteville.

On Saturday afternoon participants will travel to TAMARACK: The Best of West Virginia, the nation’s first showcase of handcrafts, fine art and regional cuisine, to sample WV food and art. Tamarack’s Greenbrier-trained Executive Chef Jamie Henderson will present a cooking demonstration to the group. Following the culinary class, coupons for Tamarack will be provided for use in the arts complex. Chef Jamie will prepare a dinner to be followed by a performance in Tamarack’s Governor Hulett C. Smith Theatre of Julia Child by storyteller and actress Karen Vuranch. Vuranch is known for her portrayals of women in history and her performance of Julia Child has received rave reviews.

On Sunday participants will join a culinary class at the kitchen of Gourmet on the Gorge with Chef Joy Marr. An on-site brunch will take place following the class. Chef Joy is well-known for her outstanding cooking and the “FEAST from the FIELDS” dinner she produces annually. The brunch will be prepared using the freshest ingredients harvested locally to create a memorable season based menu.
