Numerous Holiday Happenings Scheduled for Washington Co. in November and December

MARIETTA, OH (November 3, 2009) – Prepare for the upcoming holiday season by checking items off your gift list and enjoying holiday events and activities with your friends and loved ones in historic Marietta!

 

Start your holiday shopping early at the Marietta Holiday Merchant & Artist Walk on Friday, November 13 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Downtown Marietta. Stroll along the streets and visit over 35 retail shops featuring local and regional artists. Refreshments, music and much more will be on every corner and in the stores.

 

Get into the festive holiday spirit with The Castle’s Gingerbread House Workshop on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. The workshop includes all materials (including candy) as well as an instruction booklet with templates. The registration fee is $15 and reservations are required by November 1.

 

The annual Marietta Christmas Parade will go through Downtown Marietta on November 28 at 1:00 p.m. The Belpre Holiday Lights Parade will also take place on Belpre’s Washington Blvd. to River Park at 6:00 p.m. the same evening.

 

To kick off the season’s festivities, Downtown Marietta merchants will host the second annual Merry-Etta Moonlight Savings event Friday, December 4 from 5 p.m. to Midnight. Shop til’ you drop at participating area merchants for a chance to receive up to 50% off your entire purchase that evening! When you reach the register with your purchases, draw a “Snowball” from the bucket of savings for a chance to receive a discount of 10-50% off.

 

The Marietta Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony will also take place on December 4 at 6:00 p.m. at Armory Square. In addition, the Downtown Holiday Loft Tour will be on Dec. 5 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and includes a look at downtown loft locations decorated for the season.

 

More than 50 crafters and artisans will feature the best in holiday crafts, stained glass, handmade jewelry, woodworking, florals and more at the Christmas Village Craft Show on December 5. The craft show will be in the Gymnasium of the Betsey Mills Club, located on 300 Fourth Street, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Admission is a $2 donation and new, unwrapped toys for the Marine Corp. “Toys for Tots” drive can also be dropped off.

 

The Lafayette Hotel will have a Victorian Tea on December 5 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Reservations are required and admission is $10 per person. The Julia-Ann Square Victorian Christmas Tour & Tea will feature five district homes on display on December 5 – 6 at 10th at Juliana Streets in Parkersburg, WV. On Saturday, December 5 guided tours will take place at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. with an Evening Candlelight Tour from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tea will be served on Saturday at the historic First United Methodist Church. On Sunday, December 6 tours will take place from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Tickets for Saturday tours are $15 and $10 for Sunday tours.

 

Santa will be on hand for breakfast and pictures with children on December 12 from 7:30 – 10:00 a.m. at the Brighter Day Restaurant. There will also be a raffle and country store. The cost is $5 per person and pictures are $5 each and include a goody bag. All proceeds will benefit the YMCA Child Care.

 

Take the time to relax and enjoy the holiday season with your friends and family at the Victorian Christmas Tea at The Castle on Saturday, December 12. Victorian Christmas sweets and tea will be served at two tea times, 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. Tours of The Castle decorated for Christmas will be included. Reservations are required and the cost is $10 per person. The Castle will also offer Victorian Christmas Tours on Sunday, December 13 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. Admission is $7 per person.

 

Local youth groups will perform a Live Nativity Scene at Sweetapple Farm, located at 149 Sweetapple Farm in Vincent, on December 22 and 23 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. There will be singing and reading performances at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. The Christmas Shop will have hot drinks, farm Christmas ornaments, farm crafts and Harvest Run Creation candles for sale. There will be over 18,000 lights displayed around Sweetapple Farm to make the farmstead sparkle in the night.

 

The YMCA Holiday Bicycle Light Tour will take place on December 26 at 7:00 p.m. The tour will last approximately 60-90 minutes and all riders are reminded to wear a helmet and have a light on your bike. After the tour hot drinks and cookies will be served at the YMCA.
