Whistler Dine In program

06-02-2010

Bullfighter and freestyle skier amongst Whistler restaurateurs and chefs participating in Whistler Dine In program

Whistler, B.C. – From a former bullfighter to a professional freestyle skier and the Guinness World Record holder for champagne sabering, Whistler’s restaurateurs and chefs are a diverse bunch. But they do have a binding thread: a commitment to offering exceptional culinary experiences and value to Whistler visitors.

And from now until June 30, Dine In Whistler lets visitors experience Whistler's culinary scene at more than 20 featured restaurants offering three-course menus for $25, $35 and $45 (CAD).

"The diversity of chefs and restaurateurs in Whistler is truly one of our strengths as a culinary destination," says André Saint-Jacques, owner of the Bearfoot Bistro. "We’ve got people of different backgrounds, with different cooking influences, from different countries, all offering creative and unique dining experiences for their customers. From the more formal restaurants to the more casual eateries, each chef is designing his or her own special menu combining local ingredients with influences from everywhere they’ve lived, travelled and cooked.”

One of Whistler’s best-known culinary personalities, Saint-Jacques holds the world record for removing the corks from 21 bottles of champagne in less than 60 seconds – using a saber. Other well-known members of Whistler’s restaurant scene include La Rua Restaurante’s Mario Enero, who hails from Spain and lists ‘bullfighter’ as a former occupation as well as Tokyo Tom, chef at KA-ZE, who first came to Canada in the late 1960s to establish his reputation as a professional freestyle skier.
