Kiplinger's Names Salt Lake One of "Top 10 Best Cities"

SALT LAKE CITY (June 9, 2010) - The July issue of Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine names Salt Lake one of the "10 Best Cities for the Next Decade," touting Salt Lake's cost of living and doing business, as well as its close proximity to mountain recreation. In their search for top cities, they "focused on places that specialize in 'out-of-the box' thinking," stating that a city's innovation factor has three elements; smart people, great ideas and a high level of collaboration.  The list includes cities that are "not just great places to live, but also great places to start a business or find a job."

"It's no coincidence that economic vitality and livability go hand in hand," Kiplinger's said. "Creativity in music, arts and culture, plus neighborhoods and recreational facilities that rank high for 'coolness,' attract like-minded professionals who go on to cultivate a region's business scene."

With world-renowned hospitality and great value, Salt Lake is not only an ideal place to live and do business, it is also the perfect venue for conventions. "Salt Lake has come to define the term 'host city' after successfully hosting such high profile events as the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Rotary International's 2007 Convention, and MPI's 2009 World Education Congress," said Scott Beck, president & CEO of the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We recently won the opportunity to host the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) 2016 Annual Meeting & Exposition, yet another influential group to select Utah's capital city as its destination of choice. Clearly these prestigious organizations believe our city was, and is, the perfect venue for their worldwide events, further proof that Salt Lake continues to be recognized as a world class convention and meeting destination."

As noted in Kiplinger's report, part of what makes Salt Lake such an ideal city is the abundance of recreation, unique dining and nightlife, and the vibrant local art and culture scene.  "For a visitor, when you combine all of this with the natural surroundings you truly have a unique one of a kind destination that is "Different by Nature," Beck continued.
