Tiffany: Color and Light at the VMFA Road to Revolution Heritage Trail & St. John's Church Bizarre, Weird and Just Plain Odd at VHS

Visitors will be amazed by the newly-expanded Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ Tiffany: Color and Light exhibit, showcasing the works of renowned designer and master of glass Louis Comfort Tiffany. VMFA is the only American museum hosting this exhibit, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for guests to view more than 180 Tiffany objects. Exhibit runs through August 15, 2010. Patrick Henry’s history is conveniently organized and mapped out for visitors on the Road to Revolution Heritage Trail, now featuring new interpretive signage. The trail links historic sites in Virginia that interpret the life of the orator of the American Revolution and Virginia’s first governor. Six of the 10 sites that played a key role in shaping the values and intellect of Patrick Henry are located in the Richmond Region. One in particular is St. John’s Church, where visitors can witness a re-enactment of the Second Virginia Convention that culminated in Patrick Henry’s fiery “give me liberty or give me death” speech, Sundays now through Labor Day. Introducing Historic Route 1
Entice visitors to stay away from the interstate, roll down their windows and explore Historic Route 1. This Historic East Coast highway now has its own tourism website designed to provide information and to help travelers plan their trips along Route 1. The site includes information about historic landmarks, mom-and-pop diners, classic inns and motels, and larger-than-life locals in Virginia and will eventually incorporate information about additional states, spanning from Maine to Florida. Visitors can become wine connoisseurs this Summer and Fall alongside the Virginia Wine Growers’ Association. Every Friday evening through Oct. 8 at the 17th Street Farmers’ Market, guests can learn how to pair regionally-produced wines and micro-brews from the Old Dominion with the best edible fare in Richmond. Fireworks Light Up Richmond
All around the Region visitors will be dazzled by incredible Fourth of July fireworks displays. Baseball fans can catch the AA Flying Squirrels at the Diamond and see fireworks during June and July. Featuring children’s activities, food and fireworks the Genworth Financial 27th Annual Independence Day Concert will be held July 2. Thrill seekers can board Kings Dominion’s new Giga-coaster Intimidator 305 and see fireworks July 3-4. Fans of horse races can visit Colonial Downs July 3-4 for the "Racing to the Stars & Stripes" party complete with a fireworks display. Finally, Dogwood Dell is hosting an Independence Day Celebration July 4 that includes fireworks.
Visitors won’t expect it but they also won’t want to look away from the new Bizarre Bits: Oddities from the Collection exhibit at the Virginia Historical Society (VHS).
