SKI SEASON OFFICIALLY BEGINS IN THE POCONO MOUNTAINS

POCONO MOUNTAINS, PA, Dec. 6, 2007 – The Pocono Mountains region of northeastern Pennsylvania has announced the beginning of its official 2007-2008 ski season.  With snow falling as early as November 10, Big Boulder Ski Area opened this week with the help of snowmaking machines.  The remaining six ski areas will open this week and next week, with possible snowfall expected throughout the week and weekend.

“The early snowfall we are experiencing this season has adrenaline pumping throughout the region for an excellent start to the ski season,” said Carl Wilgus, recently appointed as executive director for the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.  “Fresh powder combined with new amenities and technologies on the slopes means our 163 ski trails offer visitors of every level exhilarating challenges.”  Official ski area opening dates are as follows:

Open for the season:      Big Boulder Ski Area

Friday, Dec. 7:             Blue Mountain Ski Area

                                    Shawnee Mountain

Saturday, Dec. 8:           Camelback Mountain Resort

                        Jack Frost Mountain

Friday, Dec. 14:             Alpine Mountain Ski & Ride Center

Saturday, Dec. 15:         Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain
