Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay Anniversaries

08-10-2010

Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay Two Significant 2011 and 2012 Anniversaries

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND—With 2011 just around the corner, the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB) wants to spread the word about the milestone events that businesses and organizations will be celebrating in and around the destination over the next two years. All interested individuals are invited to join in the festivities.

Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2011. Established in 1966, the theatre provides performances under the stars in downtown Annapolis. 143 Compromise Street, Annapolis, MD 21401-1863. 410-268-0809. www.summergarden.com.

Annapolis Symphony Orchestra will be celebrating its 50th anniversary during the 2011-2012 season. The festivities will kick off in July 2011 and will culminate with a May 2012 anniversary concert and event. 801 Chase Street, Annapolis, MD 21401-3530. 410-269-1132. www.annapolissymphony.org.

Anne Arundel Medical Center will celebrate the ten-year anniversary of its Acute Care Pavilion’s opening on December 2, 2001 in 2011. It was on this date that the move from the downtown Annapolis hospital site to the Medical Park location was completed. In addition, the South Tower of AAMC’s Acute Care Pavillion is slated to open in 2011, ten years after the building it is attached to first opened. The new tower will feature a new emergency department, including a dedicated pediatric emergency department and inpatient unit, eight new operating rooms, additional patient care beds, a new 1,600 space parking garage, and a new cafeteria. 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401. 443-481-4700. www.aahs.org/expansion.

B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore and the B&O Railroad Museum’s Ellicott City Station will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War from April 2011 through December 2015. The Civil War was the first major conflict where railroads played a prominent role, and the B&O was the major line that straddled a divided country. Between April 19, 1861 (The Baltimore Riot of 1861) and April 21, 1865 (Lincoln’s funeral train leaving Baltimore for Illinois), the B&O stood as witness and participant in the greatest conflict the United States has ever faced. The B&O Railroad Museum can tell better than most the story of how railroads and railroaders shaped the course of American history during pivotal moments of the conflict. The War Came by Train will serve as the B&O’s primary attraction for the five-year commemoration of the war’s sesquicentennial. 901 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21223-2699. 410-752-4287. www.borail.org.

Evolutions Body Clinic will celebrate its 10th anniversary of service in the Annapolis area in October 2011. 1834 George Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21401. 410-224-7220. www.evolutionsbodyclinic.com.

Framed by the Chesapeake Bay on the east and by Route 2/Solomons Island Road on the west, Four Rivers reflects Maryland’s rich historic, cultural, and natural legacy. 44 Calvert Street, P.O. Box 2700, Annapolis, MD 21401. 410-222-1805. www.fourriversheritage.org.
