Fall into Fun at Mystic Aquarium

New Halloween-themed events offer thrills for all ages

MYSTIC, Conn. (September 28, 2010) – Mystic Aquarium will rely on scare tactics to attract visitors next month.

Connecticut’s leading attraction presents a brand new Fall-o-ween fest, a weekend-long, holiday-themed festival.  This event is the highlight of a month of Halloween-themed activities including a chance to sleep among the fishes in the Aquarium; enjoy a Halloween-themed breakfast; and a spooky cocktail event.  Many of the events are new this year and presented during extended Aquarium hours.  Admission to the Fall-o-Ween Fest event is offered at a discounted rate and is intended to appeal to adults, teenagers and young children.

Celebrate Halloween in style with the weekend-long Fall-o-Ween Fest taking place Friday - Sunday, Oct. 29-31. Choose from among hay rides, carnival games, a Haunted Marsh Walk, a special Halloween Sea Lion Show themed “Alice in Waterland” and a spooky haunted house filled with zombies.  Other activities include face-painting, Tarot card readings, a costume contest, and seasonal ale tastings for adults. Event hours are Oct. 29, 3 -10 p.m.; Oct. 30, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Oct. 31, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tickets cost $20, $17 for ages 13-17, $15 for children ages 3-12. Aquarium members are admitted free. Some activities will have an additional charge or are offered only at specific times.

Family-friendly fun is on tap for the last three weekends of the month. The new Haunted Family Overnights on Oct. 15-16 and Oct. 23-24 offer families a chance to tour the Aquarium after dark, touch a shark, play games, make a craft, and sleep among the Aquarium’s main-floor exhibits. The spooky sleepovers begin at 7 p.m. and continue through 9 a.m. the following morning. Children must be at least 5 years of age and accompanied by a paying adult. Everyone is encouraged to wear a costume. Tickets cost $65, $55 for children. Aquarium members pay $55, child members are admitted for $45. Pre-registration is required.

Dig in to mummy sausages, green eggs and ham, hash brains and other silly morning treats at a Halloween Boo!reakfast Sundays, Oct. 17, 24 or 31, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tickets cost $18, $15 for children 12 and younger; $16 for adult Aquarium members and $13 for child members.
