The Elegantly Restored Historic E.B. Morgan House
Enriches Your Visit to the Finger Lake Wine Region

Immerse yourself in Finger Lakes wine culture –

In volume of U.S. wine production, New York’s Finger Lakes region is second only to the states of the West Coast; it may be argued that the cool-climate vintages produced in the terrain along the protected shores of the parallel deep-water lakes are unequaled.

One of the newest and most noteworthy wineries in the area is Heart & Hands Wine Company, located just five miles north of Aurora. In an intriguing innovation unique in the Finger Lakes region, Heart & Hands produces Polarity, a white wine made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes.

Oenophilic guests of the E.B. Morgan House are now invited to take advantage of this wealth of local expertise. Take an intensive tutorial with winemakers, Tom and Susan Higgins, who will guide you through the winemaking process from grape selection to fermentation.  Depending on the season, you may be “pressed” into service for first-hand experience caring for vines, helping out with the harvest, or even pressing the grapes!  At day’s end, you will be presented with a prize for your cellar:  two bottles of wine that you helped produce at Heart & Hands Wine Company.

Each guest’s experience will differ according to the wine they choose to produce and the variety of activities and tasks involved in the winemaking process.  Here is a “taste” of what the two nights, three-day package will include:

Day 1

  • Join winemakers at Heart & Hands Wine Company, Tom and Susan Higgins, for a wine and cheese meet-and-greet at Bet The Farm, a gourmet wine and food shop.
  • Enjoy a 3-course dinner prepared by Aurora Inn chefs.
Day 2
  • Produce your very own wine! Shadow and assist winemaker Tom Higgins, who will teach you the fundamentals of winemaking.  Guests may choose to produce either Pinot Noir (from the winery’s reserve barrels) or sparkling wine.  Two bottles of the self-produced wine is presented as a gift to take home.  Guests will have the opportunity to purchase up to 10 additional bottles of “their” wine.
  • Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch in the handsome French-style barrel room at Heart & Hands Wine Company.

The cost of the Vintner experiential package at the E.B. Morgan House ranges from $350-$620 (per person, based on double occupancy) depending on room type and on which wine guests choose to produce.  The package cost includes 2 nights of accommodations, breakfast each morning, a 3-course dinner, your winery experience, two bottles of wine, two wine-and-cheese events, and all taxes and gratuities.  Available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from December 13, 2010 through April 27, 2011.

Head home with a new understanding and appreciation of the winemaking process and several bottles of wine to show for it!
