The Danube Tourist Commission’s eleventh Shipping Conference was opened on December 4 in the city of Krems. Among others at the focus of attention were docks, locks and the prospects for EU-Corridor VII. As the number of ships travelling the Danube increases yearly—101 cruise ships sailed the Austrian stretch of the Danube alone through October 2007 accounting for 3,400 dockings and 165,000 passengers—so too do the standards of piers and docks grow in importance. The thirty-two docks operated by Brandner in Lower and Upper Austria and Vienna were cited as benchmarks for their impeccable infrastructure, as participants on the excursion to Rossatz aboard MS Austria were able to see for themselves.
