MIR Corporation Pushes Adventure Envelope By Hosting Exclusive Tour of Russia’s Space Program Including Ring-side Seats for Soyuz Rocket Launch

SEATTLE, WA, Mar 2, 2011 –MIR Corporation http://www.mircorp.com/ that’s staging an around-the-world car rally is pushing the adventure envelope yet again, this time by hosting an insider’s tour of Russia’s space program.

Politics aside, this is a serious, highly exclusive 11-day program for only 20 people that begins and ends in Moscow with a representative of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center joining the welcome dinner. Guests spend a day at the once-classified Star City where the center is located, exploring the MIR Space Station and other simulators and learning how crews acquire the skills to walk in space. The world's largest centrifuge, used for simulating G-loads, is on the program as well.

Visitors will be gathering background information, much of it relating to the Cold War, in preparation for transferring by air to Baikonur Cosmodrome on the Kazakh steppe. Here they will witness the launch of the giant Soyuz rocket that ferries astronauts and cosmonauts to the International Space Station. Later in the journey guests will gather in a VIP seating gallery at Mission Control Center for the live satellite feed of the Soyuz docking.

Other visits include museums, both space related and cultural. Of special note is the Energia Space Museum displaying Yuri Gagarin’s original landing module, the spacecraft from which Alexei Leonov took the world’s first space walk, and a full-scale mock-up of the Soyuz-Apollo spacecraft.

Guests can also schedule optional cosmonaut training followed by a zero gravity flight.

The nearly all-inclusive, per-person double rate is $13,995 per person double land tour, single supplement $1,295. Included are all accommodation (deluxe hotels in Moscow, best available in Baikonur), hotel taxes, all meals, arrival/departure transfers, all land transportation per itinerary including economy class air roundtrip between Moscow and Baikonur and private motor coach throughout the itinerary, extensive sightseeing, including entrance fees and special access to Cosmonaut Training Center, pre-launch and launch activities in Baikonur, and Mission Control, welcome and farewell receptions, guide services and gratuities to tour manager, guides and drivers. Excluded are travel insurance, round trip airfare to/from gateway cities, passport, visa fees and personal items.

MIR founder Douglas Grimes himself designed this one-off itinerary that is in line with the company’s mission to offer the intrepid traveler exotic journeys and unexpected adventures in some of the planet’s most under-traveled and challenging places.
