FAR NIENTE VINEYARDS, MARCH 29
WHO: Taj Campton Place's Richard Dean, master sommelier, Chef Srijith Gopinathan and Nicole Marchesi, winemaker for Far Niente Vineyards in Napa Valley.
Far Niente was founded in 1885 by John Benson, a forty-niner of the California gold rush and uncle of the famous American impressionist painter, Winslow Homer. Benson hired architect Hamden McIntyre, creator of the former Christian Brothers winery - now the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone - to design the building. Constructed against a hillside in western Oakville, Far Niente functioned as a gravity flow winery, gently moving the grapes through each stage of production.
WHAT: The evening starts with a glass of sparkling wine, followed by a mini-vertical of the Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Nicole Marchesi will present Far Niente's vintages of 2005, 2006 and 2007 and dinner will be prepared at Campton Place Restaurant by Chef Srijith Gopinathan (menu and wine pairings below).
WHERE: Taj Campton Place, 340 Stockton Street
WHEN: March 29, 2011 at 7 pm; dinner at 8 pm in Campton Place Restaurant
HOW: The cost of the event is $140 (exclusive of tax and gratuity). Guests of Taj Campton Place's winemaker dinners can "take the elevator home" by booking an overnight stay at a special $150 (plus tax) "Vintner's Rate" for a deluxe guestroom.
