PRESS RELEASE

ISRAEL'S NEW CATHOLIC PILGRIMAGE ITINERARY ALLOWS VISITORS TO TRAVEL IN THE FOOTSTEPS
OF THE VIRGIN MARY

mary'swellNew York - March 16, 2011: A new Catholic pilgrimage itinerary to Israel entitled, "In the Footsteps of the Virgin Mary," was recently launched by the Israel Ministry of Tourism.

The new guide, written specifically for pilgrimage tour operators, offers suggested itineraries for Christian pilgrims seeking to enrich and enhance a spiritual experience in the Holy Land.

The itinerary provides information on Christian holy sitesthroughout Israel, which the bible cites as places visited by the Virgin Mary and Jesus--including her birthplace Zippori in the Galilee; Nazareth, where pilgrims can visit Mary's Well; the Mary of Nazareth International Center; Elijah's Cave, the place where the Holy Family rested on its return from Egypt; Ein Kerem, the birthplace of St. John the Baptist; and Abu Ghosh with the Church of Notre Dame de l'Arche de l'Alliance. Travelers will also find workshops related to ceramics, agriculture, traditional cooking and weaving.

"The new pilgrimage itinerary will allow travelers the chance to walk the footsteps of Mary and tour Christian holy sites in Israel," says Haim Gutin, Israel Commissioner for Tourism, North and South America, "Which comes following last year's all-time high in Christian tourism to Israel with the arrival of nearly 1,190,250 travelers.

The new itinerary can be found on the Israel Ministry of Tourism's dedicated Catholic website, www.holyland-pilgrimage.org.
