MARTIN RANDALL OFFERS SPAIN MUSIC FESTIVAL

01-04-2008

UK based, Martin Randall Travel (MRT) will be hosting  “The Road to Paradise: A festival of music in Santiago de Compostela” from June 12-17, 2008 in Spain.  Internationally renowned musicians perform nine concerts of music – from the length and breadth of Europe, from the Middle Ages to the present day – in churches, cloisters and palaces.  The goal of countless pilgrims for twelve hundred years, Santiago de Compostela is an ideal setting for the music festival.  This festival is exclusive to MRT participants and open to about two hundred music enthusiasts.

The outstanding line-up of performers includes the Gabrieli Consort, La Serenissima, His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts, the Dominant Quartet, Rosemary Joshua, Mhairi Lawson and Neal Davies, performing music by Bach, Tallis, Holst, Monteverdi, Byrd, Britten, Haydn, amongst many others. The concert venues take place in the finest buildings in the city, including the Cathedral of St James, Convento de San Francisco, Convento de San Pelayo de Antealtares, Palacio de San Lorenzo and Monasterio de San Martín Pinario.

The festival features four speakers, with each morning beginning with an introduction to the music by a musicologist, followed by a short talk on one of various subjects covering history, architecture and pilgrimage.  While the festival is musically intensive, there will be free time to explore Santiago independently.
Prices range from £1,620 to £2,640 (British pounds) per person based on double occupancy. Single rates are available upon request.  This rate includes admission to all nine private concerts, lectures, accommodation for five nights in one of four hotels within the historic center, three dinners and one lunch with wine, all breakfasts, all tips and taxes, the assistance of a team of Spanish speaking festival staff, a detailed program booklet, and other practical and cultural information.

Guests who wish to arrive in advance of the festival can join a pre-festival walking pilgrimage to Santiago.  The road to Santiago is one of the most splendid walking routes in Europe, running almost 500 miles across northern Spain.  The journey normally takes a month.  MRT will highlight the route in six-days from June 7-12, 2008 starting in Burgos westward. Like pilgrims, guests will walk the route, (bags will meet guests) that for centuries compelled the imagination.  Guests will eat, drink and sleep in comfortable hotels at the end of each day.  The price for this pre-tour is £1,030 (British pounds) per person based on double occupancy. Single rates are available.
