BOSTON – (May 27, 2011) – Want to support young performing artists? Just reach for a slice of cake… as long as it’s a slice of the delectable new Boston Conservatory Opera Cake that Taj Boston, the landmark hotel at Arlington and Newbury streets, will introduce June 6 in The Café. Sales will benefit The Boston Conservatory Scholarship Fund.

“Taj Boston is proud to continue our association with The Boston Conservatory, Boston’s own prestigious, independent performing arts college that offers degrees in music, dance and musical theater,” said Jeffrey Seward, General Manager, Taj Boston. “What could be better than an Opera Cake to sweeten the opportunity for students to pursue their dreams at America’s oldest performing arts college?”

The cake in question is a contemporary take on the traditional Opera Cake, consisting of a light almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, layered with coffee mousse and milk chocolate ganache, and topped with chocolate glaze. It will be offered for $10 in The Café, available daily for lunch and dinner beginning Monday, June 6. Taj Boston will donate a portion of each sale of Boston Conservatory Opera Cake ($2) to The Boston Conservatory Scholarship Fund.

The Boston Conservatory Scholarship Fund paves the way for the next generation of performing artists and educators to get the best training and education possible.  With approximately 80% of Conservatory students receiving financial aid, the scholarship fund allows the Conservatory to attract and matriculate talented students of the highest caliber --- regardless of their ability to pay.

“Taj Boston is known for its refinement, rich traditions and exceptional good taste,” says Richard Ortner, President of The Boston Conservatory.  “And ‘good taste’ only begins to describe the spectacular confection they’ve created for us!  We are honored to partner again with the Taj, and enormously grateful for their help in supporting our gifted young performers in this imaginative way.”

The Café at Taj Boston, with expansive views of fashionable Newbury Street, is a local favorite for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, and showcases culinary creations by Executive Chef Michael Mandato and his team. Weekly new prix fixe menus for lunch and dinner offer a choice of two or three courses for $20 or $25 at lunch and $30 or $35 at dinner. In season, The Café is the ideal location for pre-theater dining before experiencing an engaging performance at the Conservatory.
