Delight in Succulent Specials During Fredericksburg’s

“Road to Salivation” Restaurant Week

City’s restaurants offer prix fixe 3-course meals for a fraction of the usual price

(Fredericksburg, Va., January 7, 2008) – ”One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.”  ~Luciano Pavarotti and William Wright, Pavarotti, My Own Story. And there is no better time and place to stop than the city of Fredericksburg’s third annual Restaurant Week, also known as The Road to Salivation, which is a celebration of the richness and diversity of Fredericksburg’s dining establishments.

From January 10-21, 2008, a number of the city’s restaurants will offer special menus that showcase each of their respective specialties. Food enthusiasts from Richmond and Washington D.C. to those in Stafford and Spotsylvania counties will be able to indulge in three-course prix fixe meals for a fraction of the regular price. Lunches are just $10.08 and dinners are only $20.08.

Fredericksburg’s walkable 40-block historic district features a variety of one-of-a-kind restaurants, where you’ll often find the owner/chef in the kitchen preparing your meal. Additionally, nestled among the restaurants is the inescapable history of the city. Once one of the east coast’s busiest riverports, a home to many Revolutionary War patriots (George Washington had his boyhood home near here) and Civil War heroes, the city’s history complements and elevates the dining experience.

Marinated pork loin with braised red cabbage and cornbread stuffing; savory prime rib sandwich with roasted vegetable pasta salad are just previews of the delicacies that await diners. If Robert E. Lee, one of the South’s most noted generals was still alive, he would have his entire Confederate army head to downtown Fredericksburg to enjoy these delectable dishes. And for once, Union commander Ulysses S. Grant would agree that this was a good idea.

For those who enjoy traveling for new food experiences, Fredericksburg is a short one hour drive on I-95 from both Washington D.C. and Richmond, Va. at exit 130A off of I-95.

The 2008 Road to Salivation is presented by the City of Fredericksburg and sponsored by the Downtown Fredericksburg Restaurant Association. Reservations are recommended, but not required for this event. Visit www.DineFred.com for more information.
