Press Release: Press Release: New Steigenberger Hotel Opens on the Baltic Island of Usedom

Usedom, the island in the Baltic Sea in Germany’s northeast, is one of the best beach and bath destinations in Europe. Home to the three Imperial Bathes, which were already the retreat for the German Emperors, it stands since the 19th century for luxury and relaxation. Now the island has a new attraction: The Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa recently opened in the seaside resort of Heringsdorf on the island. www.steigenberger.com

The Steigenberger Grandhotel and Spa resembles the white villa-style of the former royal seaside resorts. It is therefore a perfect addition and complement to the island of Usedom, offering historical elegance and modern comfort. The salty Baltic Sea air, long beaches and unspoilt nature are just waiting to be discovered by guests in the imperial seaside resort of Heringsdorf, one of three Imperial Bathes on the Island. Located right on the beach promenade, the luxurious Steigenberger Hotel, offers its guests 120 rooms and suites in the Grandpalais, four exclusive apartments in the Villa am Meer, 23 rooms in the Villa Augusta and its own Children’s Club and a further 40 suites in two "Seaside Residencies."

A particular highlight of the hotel is the Baltic Sea Grand Spa an exclusive resort spread over 21,000 square feet and features a 70-foot outside pool as well as a special Vitalpool with health-giving properties, ideal for water therapy. The facilities also include various saunas and steam rooms, a ladies-only sauna, a generous fitness area and the Spa Bistro. The main restaurant and the Bistro both serve contemporary, light cuisine as well as regional dishes. Conference guests can choose between four conference rooms that can be joined together in various combinations or turned into a large reception room measuring 2.700 square feet. www.steigenberger.com

Usedom combines sandy beaches with forest areas and rolling hills. A natural park on the one hand and a famous leisurely resort on the other, the island is multifaceted and fascinating. Close to the German coastline and the border to Poland it is perfect for watersports of all kinds. Either enjoy the warmer and calmer waters on the south side of the island or the open Baltic Sea in the north. A cultural highlight is the Usedom Music Festival each fall (September 24 - October 15, 2011) featuring stars of the international classical music scene. www.usedom.de
