Rock n’ Roll & Ice Carving to Collide in Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado

“Rock on Ice” shows & demonstrations set for Jan. 31 & Feb. 1

GUNNISON-CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (January 9, 2008) What happens when rock n’ roll and ice carving collide?  Check it out on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, when “Rock on Ice” pays a visit to the Mt. Crested Butte Town Center, located at the ski base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort in southwest Colorado.  The Rock on Ice team is comprised of six world champion and certified ice carvers who thrill audiences by creating beautiful ice sculptures in only minutes with rock n’ roll music as the backdrop.

This two-day event will feature ice carving demonstrations during the day and fast-paced, high-energy ice carving shows set at night.  Stick around for après ski and tubing after the lifts close, then marvel at the talents of these ice artists.  Prior to the evening shows, two autograph sessions will take place where kids can have their names carved into a block of ice.

Thursday, January 31

8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Ice carving demonstrations will take place outdoors throughout the base area, including Mountaineer Square’s courtyard, Elevation Hotel’s Atmosphere deck and Butte 66’s patio.

6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The Dueling Chainsaws stage show features four carvers competing in a bracket system to declare the best speed carver.  Carvers have only 20 minutes and a chainsaw to make their creation on the Atmosphere Deck at Elevation Hotel.  Audience members will determine the winner and leave one man standing.

Friday, February 1

8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Ice carving demonstrations will take place outdoors throughout the base area, including Mountaineer Square’s courtyard, Elevation Hotel’s Atmosphere deck and Butte 66’s patio.
