2,000-YEAR-OLD GOLDEN BELL DISCOVERED IN ISRAEL 5TH-CENTURY ANCHOR DISCOVERED OFF THE COAST OF BAT YAM
OCTOBER 2011 Vol. 1 - Issue 4
A tiny 2,000-year-old golden bell was recently discovered by the Israel Antiquities Authority during a dig in the ruins around Jerusalem's Old City. The bell, which is believed to have adorned garments of senior city officials during the Second Temple Period, was unearthed during excavations around a drainage channel connecting different parts of the city to the biblical pool of Siloam in the City of David.
A 1,700-year-old Byzantine anchor was discovered last week by a team of lifeguards in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Bat Yam near Tel Aviv. The 660-pound artifact sheds light on the presence of Byzantine ships amongst ancient Mediterranean seafaring routes.
