Since its triumphant return to the Washington, D.C. hospitality scene exactly two years ago this month, The Jefferson, four blocks from The White House, has been turning heads in the travel world. This month, The Jefferson was honored for the second consecutive year as one of the “Top 10 Small City Hotels in the U.S./Canada” in Travel + Leisure Magazine’s annual 2011 World’s Best Awards.
 
The historic Relais & Châteaux hotel, a handsome Beaux Arts gem, was designed by Jules Henri de Sibour in 1923 and for nearly half a century, The Jefferson was known as Washington’s most elegant hotel, attracting a steady stream of distinguished guests from celebrities to diplomats, from Vivien Leigh to Leonard Bernstein. In 2007, The Jefferson closed its doors in order to undergo a massive transformation that would seamlessly blend The Jefferson’s past with modern amenities and technology.
 
Since reopening, The Jefferson has been named a Forbes Four-Star Hotel, was included on Condé Nast Traveler’s “Hot List” and was referred to by Robb Report as one of “The Best of the Best.”
 
Now, two years since reopening, this beauty is once again among the Washington elite, raising the standards of excellence in Washington hospitality to a level its sophisticated presidential namesake would surely approve of today.
