Media tips you'll find in this issue:

This Thanksgiving weekend in The D will be jam packed with the most spectacular parade in town, Detroit Lions Football and the best shopping deals of the year.
Hundreds of thousands of parade-goers of all ages will line Woodward Avenue this Thanksgiving for the 85th Annual America’s Thanksgiving Parade®. Themed, So Much to Believe In, the parade kicks off at 9:20 a.m. on Woodward Ave. and Mack and ends at Woodward Ave. and Congress. Those that can’t make it to the parade don’t have to miss out; it will be broadcast live on WDIV Local 4 and WJR 760 AM. For more details, go to www.theparade.org

Turkey, football and the Detroit Lions are synonymous with Thanksgiving in The D. Put on your favorite player’s jersey and head to Ford Field, as the Detroit Lions take on the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the Green Bay Packers this Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, 2011. This tradition is older than all of the other 24 current NFL franchises and was first started back in 1934. Go towww.detroitlions.com for further ticket information.

Metro Detroit has exactly what you are looking for in the perfect gift this holiday season. Visitors will find great savings on “Black Friday,” which is the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday (November 25, 2011). Known for its outrageous sales, giveaways and shopping deals (a majority of which happen in the wee hours of the morning), “Black Friday” is literally the best time to shop around. For more information about shopping in The D, go to www.visitdetroit.com.

We don’t know if there will be snow, but we can promise there will be a fun free night with special events at downtown museums, cars and trees, bright lights and holiday nights in The D this winter.
Bundle up for the eighth annual Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony at Campus Martius Park on Friday, Nov. 18. You’ll enjoy special performances and a countdown as the switch is turned on the gigantic Norway spruce that lights up the park. Along with the tree lighting Campus Martius Park also hosts an ice skating rink and arctic blast ice slide open throughout the winter months. For more information, go to www.campusmartiuspark.org.

Campus Martius Park will also debut a new event this November called Christmas WonderFest, an indoor/outdoor festival featuring marketplaces, a carousel, Ferris wheel and photographs with Santa Claus. Christmas WonderFest kicks off Nov. 18 and runs through Thanksgiving weekend. An International Marketplace will sell gifts and goods from countries across the globe and a Motor City Marketplace will offer merchandise and memorabilia from Detroit’s most beloved landmarks and cultural institutions. For more details go to www.christmaswonderfest.com.

Explore museums located in Detroit’s cultural center for free at this year’s Noel Night on Saturday Dec. 3. Participating venues, like the Detroit Institute of Arts, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and the Detroit Historical Museum, among many others, open their doors and provide special programming for all ages. The evening’s festivities conclude with the Noel Night tradition of a community sing along on Woodward Avenue led by the Salvation Army Band. Go to http://detroitmidtown.com for more details.

Step into a Christmas card from the past at Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village. This year’s program features live musical performances, holiday vignettes, strolling costumed presenters, four performance stages with nonstop events, holiday shops, skilled artisan demonstrations, ice skating, food stops and a fireworks finale. You can even take a horse-drawn wagon or a Model T ride and visit with Santa and his live reindeer at the Robert Frost House. Packages for dinner at Eagle Tavern and Supper with Santa are also available. Event dates are Dec. 2-3, 9-10, 16-23 and 26-27. For ticket information, go to www.thehenryford.org

The seventh annual Cars, Trees & Traditions at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum will spotlight eight decades of holiday season celebrations through 23 decorated trees paired with Chrysler vehicles throughout the museum. Evergreens on the museum’s two top floors will feature authentic ornamentation from the early 1900s through the 1980s, while those in Boss Chrysler’s Garage are embellished by theme. The exhibit will be on display Nov. 19 – Dec. 30. [Back to Press Releases Main]
