A picture is worth a thousand words. And when you are lucky enough to view the acacia-dotted savannahs and flamingo covered lakes of the Mara of Kenya, being able to document the visual experience is priceless. Maniago Safaris, a leading travel outfitter in East Africa, now offers Photography Safaris for amateurs and professionals alike, headed by renowned photographer and safari guide, Roger Moore. On this safari specially designed for photographers, photo buffs can explore and experience Kenya while developing and refining their photographic skills, and bring home exquisite snapshot mementos of their adventure. After enjoying a presentation that will prepare you for your experience, the group heads to Samburu via a scenic country inhabited by the Kikuyu tribe and the majestic Mt. Kenya. During the two day stay here filled with game drives, shutter flies can capture stunning photos of giraffes, Grevy’s zebra, long necked gerenuk, Beisa Oryx, and the elusive leopard. Safari-goers are also welcomed into a village of the Samburu tribe for some once in a lifetime portrait opportunities. Throughout, RogerMoore offers his tips, secrets, and guidance to help each member on the trip take their best snapshots. Following a delicious breakfast at the Samburu Serena Lodge, guests leave in Land Cruisers that are specially fitted for the photographers for the Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley. The photographic opportunities remain endless, with dazzling waterfalls and indigenous tribesmen along the way. Lake Nakuru is truly a sight to see, with often times more than 2 million pink flamingos, well over 400 bird species, and rhinos, zebra, and gazelle. After a day in the wild, tired guests retreat to the Flamingo Hill Tented Camp, where they can enjoy all the modern amenities. For the next 2 days, Moore leads the group through the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The drive offers breathtaking vistas of the beauty of Africa, and is a great opportunity to hone landscape photography skills. The Mara also offers the richest wildlife and game viewing in the world, and an opportunity to capture the “Big Five” all in one morning. At night, guests stay at the Mara Serena Safari Lodge, the ultimate safari destination. The last 3 days of the trip are spent in Sekenani Mara/Siana Concession. Here, guests have an option to enjoy a hot air balloon safari for a different perspective and some gorgeous panorama shots. Then on to the Siana Concession, which is privately owned, allowing travelers to feel like they are alone in their own private Africa. Base camp for this leg of the trip is Leleshwa Camp, which is in the style of the old traditional Hemingway safari. Later, guests can bridge cultures as they visit a Maasai village and build friendships with the local people. That night, guests experience an exhilirating night game drive, where often times they can catch a glimpse of a kill or feeding. Concluding the trip, the guests’ top seven pictures go into a special "Déjà vu" slideshow on the last night, which allows the group to relive their experience together. When they return home, they will receive an “Adventure book”, which is a coffee table book that contains each person’s photographs. More importantly, they will return home with lifelong memories, new and enhanced camera skills, and photographic mementos of this amazing adventure. Roger Moore’s Photographic Safaris occur several times per year in conjunction with Maniago Safaris. For more information on Maniago Safaris, please visit www.maniagosafaris.com.
