03-13-2012

And Kids are Free!

KildareIreland (Dublin), March 2012 … The Kildare Hotel, Spa & Country Club, affectionately known as The K ClubIreland's AA Hotel of the Year, is the perfect place for a European Easter celebration.   Located on the banks of the River Liffey in the heart of the idyllic Irish countryside in the picturesque village of Staffan, Co. Kildare, The K Club offers a host of activities for families this Easter season.

The K Club’s “Eggstra -ordinary Easter Package” ($487.50* / €325pps) includes two night's bed & breakfast in a Superior Room, with a Table d'hote dinner one evening and a $150 / €100.00 per adult leisure credit, which can be used for the spa, golf or for an outdoor pursuit activity. Each family also has complimentary access to the health club with its swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna, steam room and outdoor hot tub. Children are free when sharing a room with their parents.  Children under the age of 6 dine for free!

The K Club offers interconnecting rooms and cots and baby facilities are available with parents travelling with small children.  A “Kids Club” runs daily from 9:00 am and offers a host of children's activities, from arts & crafts, nature walks, and face painting.  There are also dedicated children's swimming times and even swimming lessons, junior golf clinics, horse riding, family rounders and cricket.  Children under the age of 16 can play golf on the Smurfit Palmer Course for free.  The K Club’s resident ghillie gives fly fishing demonstrations for children as well as adults – and fish caught can be brought to Chef Higgins and his team to cook for supper!

The annual Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday is ideal fun, while daily duck races on the River Liffey, which flows through the estate, brings a touch of eccentricity to an otherwise peaceful garden walk.  Animal lovers will enjoy looking at the baby chicks in the lobby or visiting and feeding the pet ducks and rabbits in the Victorian Walled Garden of the resort.  Dublin City Centre and the famed Dublin Zoo is only 30 minutes from the hotel.

There are a number of restaurants at The K Club from which families can choose, including both fine dining and informal fare.  If parents would like a few hours 'sans children' baby sitting may also be arranged upon request.

The Kildare Hotel, Spa & Country Club is housed within an elegantly restored 19th Century Georgian mansion, which is set on the former site of Straffan House estate.   The house was built in 1832 by Hugh Barton, the grandson of legendary winemaker Thomas Barton and was modeled on a French chateau. Converted into a luxury hotel and country club in 1991 The K Club is complete with original art work by artists such as Jack B. Yeat's, William Orpen and Louis le Brocquy. Many of the original features of the house have been carefully restored, including magnificent fireplaces, over mantles and ornate ceilings and chandeliers.  Luxurious yet relaxed, the hotel reflects many elements of Ireland's history and reveals the very best in hotel accommodations.

There are two championship golf courses at the resort including The Palmer Ryder Cup Course, venue for the 2006 Ryder Cup, hailed as one of the best courses in Europe, and The Palmer Smurfit Course, host to the European Open from 1995 to 2007.  Guests can avail themselves of resident green fees, and the resident golf pro, Michael Dixon is also available for private lessons.

The K Club’s 20,000 sq. ft. K Spa incorporates a secluded outdoor hydro pool, surrounded by mature bamboo plants and an aromatic herb garden.  There are seven luxurious treatment rooms, and two private suites which are ideal for couples or groups. The Oak Suite enjoys views of the herb garden and has a magnificent free standing, antique style brass bath, complete with claw feet and high-tech bath jets for hydrotherapy treatments.  The wellness suite in the spa features a Hamam, Hydrobath, Vichy Shower, and an exotic Rasul Chamber. The stylish and spacious hair, makeup and nail salon is bright and airy and guests can enjoy the comfort of massage thrones as they get a manicure or pedicure, pure bliss! The products used in The K Spa include Carita and an Irish, certified organic product called Voya, which is made from seaweed hand harvested off the coast of Sligo.

There are a wide variety of treatments at The K Spa to choose from for both men and women, and include balneotherapy, thalassotherapy, massages, facials, body care and grooming.  The K Spa is a wonderful place to while away a few hours during Easter break, an oasis of calm and tranquility -- the treatments, the facilities and the highly trained therapists all aim to relax and rejuvenate the mind and body.
