01-31-2008

Reconnect Your Family with Ideal Activities in Out Island Paradise

MARSH HARBOUR, ABACO BAHAMAS  - Does your family's busy schedule of work, school and activities keep you running in different directions? Take time to reconnect this spring at Abaco Beach Resort & Boat Harbour. This family-friendly, oceanfront resort on the peaceful and secluded island of Abaco in the Bahamas offers endless opportunity for relaxation, adventure, and the pure joy of togetherness in a sun-drenched tropical paradise.

Rather than a the typical resort's "Kids Club" that does not provide the opportunity for families to interact, Abaco Beach Resort offers families a variety of planned activities if desired - just request the family itinerary, and each day will provide an exciting new adventure.  Every activity is something that each member of the family is sure to enjoy - from snorkeling to island hopping, there is something for everyone.

Arrive and get settled on Sunday and get ready for a fun-filled schedule that leaves plenty of time for relaxation if desired.  Parents will enjoy the structure of a planned schedule, and kids will love the great things to see and do.  Below is a sample itinerary that can be modified based on family time and preferences:

SNORKELING -  MONDAY
Grab some diving gear and hit the water for some under-the-sea exploring.  Snorkeling is fun for the entire family - no matter the skill level.  All family members can snorkel in the same spot regardless of their level of experience.

KAYAKING - TUESDAY
Grab a kayak at Abaco Beach and hit the water, learning how to maneuver the gentle waves of the Sea of Abaco.  Have family relay races or just glide thru the water while watching the boats sail into the marina.  All kayaks and a variety of outdoor water sports equipment is at Abaco Beach are complimentary.

SCUBA DIVING - WEDNESDAY
Hit the on-site dive shop at Abaco Beach for an afternoon of exploring the underwater sea life of Abaco.  Families can enjoy great dive instruction--even if they are first-timers--that will enable them to explore the sea of Abaco from beautiful shells to marine life to colorful coral.

ISLAND EXCURSION TO HOPE TOWN - THURSDAY
Take the ferry to Hope town where families can find so much to see and do.  Stroll down the narrow streets and read about the history of this small quaint island.  Visits the gift shops and admire the houses in bright pastel island colors.  Dine on the water for lunch and watch the boats come in and out of the harbour. The landmark of Hope Town is the candy-striped lighthouse - one of the world's most photographed and a favorite subject for artists.  It was built in 1862, and is still operated by kerosene light.  The lighthouse keepers still haul cans of kerosene to the top of the tower, pump up the air pressure, and wind the timing mechanism, all by hand! It stands 120 feet above sea level, flashes every 15 seconds, and is visible for miles.  Climb to the top and experience breathtaking views of Abaco.

BOATING - FRIDAY
Rent a boat with your kids and teach them to navigate the Sea of Abaco - a once popular stomping ground for pirates such as Blackbeard, Captain Kidd and Henry Morgan.  Visit Shell Island and find a deserted beach full of shells for collecting.  Explore dozens of islands perfect for picnicking or just bonding with your family.  Even for novice boaters, the Sea of Abaco is perfect for anyone to navigate with close shorelines and no reefs.

HAMMOCK SWINGING - SATURDAY
Saturday is for lounging - hang out on the beach with a good book and let the kids jump on the water trampoline or just explore the grounds of the resort.  Play tennis; go for a walk or just watch the yachts cruise into the marina.  A day of relaxation - with a bit of activity if desired!

NIPPERS PIG ROAST - SUNDAY
Stick around on Sunday for the weekly pig roast at Nippers while enjoying refreshing island drinks and gazing at the spectacular ocean view.  Nippers provides a fun family atmosphere for everyone.  Nippers is a perfect way to end a great vacation and provides that last bit of family bonding - talk about the best part of vacation - being together!

In addition, the island of Abaco offers some of the Caribbean's best bonefishing and other sportfishing, as well as wildlife watching. It is home to both Abaco National Park, one of the few places in the world you can see the distinctive Abaco or "Bahama" Parrot, as well as the Abaco Wild Horse Preserve--home of the Abaco Barbs, descendents of horses brought over by Columbus and possibly the purest strain of them that exist today.

Meanwhile, with so much space to spread out in, families can relax in comfort and enjoy all the luxuries of home and then some.  Abaco Beach offers two larger room categories, perfect for families, with many features that include:
