PRLog (Press Release) - Jun 13, 2012 -
TravelTalkMEDIA Executive Producer and Host Sandy Dhuyvetter, has announced her support for the Cruise Victims Association, challenging FBI reports on cruise crime statistics. “TravelTalkRADIO has stayed on the front lines calling for reform of cruise safety since 2008,” said Dhuyvetter. “Ken Carver and a team of experts have educated our audiences with the challenges of bringing this dark side of cruising to light. Final victory came with the passing of the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act of 2010. Now in an amazing discovery, we find that the wording has changed on the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act at the 11th hour by the Coast Guard and FBI which completely changed the intent of the law, making it even easier now for crime to go undetected .“

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Calif., who sponsored the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act, are now promising to revisit and get to the bottom of why and how this wording slipped through the cracks of a promising bill that was supposed to provide greater transparency about crimes on passenger ships operating out of U.S. ports.

Arizona Republic reporter, Robert Anglen wrote in a front page article in the Sunday edition of the Arizona Republic dated June 8, 2012: “Crime reporting language was added at the request of the FBI and the U.S. Coast Guard which feared that reporting on pending cases could impact on-going investigations and endanger lives and efforts to bring criminals to justice.” Entire article can be read here: http://www.azcentral.com/news/politics/articles/2012/06/0...

Ken Carver, president of the International Cruise Victims Association said, “One example of concern for ICV is that the intent of the CVSSA was that all alleged crimes should be reported just as they are on land in the United States so that potential cruise passengers could judge for themselves the safety of a cruise vacation.

NBC investigative unit from San Francisco has recently produced the following story demanding more answers with regard to who was responsible for the change. It is well done and capsulizes the story well. As of the breaking of that story, the FBI and the Coast Guard have not returned calls for comment.
