Did London overreach? — Flights and hotels still available for the Olympics

I recently learned, there are still hotels in London during the Olympics. I had assumed things were sold out, but recently a traveler's itinerary meant a potential forced overnight in London in early August. Figuring we'd be lucky to find something by the airport, I did a quick check. Surprisingly, there are still hotels available in London for normal rates.
