Musical guests help usher in Crankworx, Whistler’s ultimate freeride festival

Whistler, B.C. – Visitors to the resort during this year’s Crankworx mountain bike festival will be treated not only to the skills and talents of some of the world’s finest freeriders but also to the musical chops of several exciting performers.

This year’s Crankworx Whistler takes place over 10 days, from August 10-19, transforming the resort into the “Colosseum of freeride mountain biking” with riders and bike enthusiasts from all over the world gathering here to take it all in: the mountains, the vibe and the competition. From the intense athletic challenges of the competitions to the artistic ambiance of film and photo contests and outdoor concerts to the uproarious antics of the Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival participants, Crankworx Whistler entertains on all levels.

The action kicks off August 10 with the Fat Tire Crit around the perimeter of Whistler Olympic Plaza. Adrenalin pumping, nerve-testing challenges of technical skill and endurance take place over the course of the event. The Teva Best Trick showdown is bound to be a crowd favourite with the world’s best slopestyle riders participating in a jam format, offering up stunts you won’t believe until you see them first-hand.

In addition to the bike events, The Go Pro Dirt Diaries film contest takes place August 14 at 7 p.m. while theDeep Summer Photo Challenge is at 7 p.m. the following day. Both events are at Whistler Olympic Plaza.

And what’s a festival without music? The Bud Light Crankworx Concert Series brings four free outdoor concerts to Whistler’s Olympic Plaza featuring The Young Empires Friday, August 10 at 7:45 p.m. followed by the Juno-Award winning Arkells at 8:45 p.m.; Victoria, B.C.’s Jets Overhead perform on Saturday, August 11 at 7:45 p.m. followed by Juno-Award winning Said the Whale at 8:45 p.m.

Whistler cranks up the summer heat with a robust events calendar.
