PHILADELPHIA, August 6, 2012 – With hotel occupancy at record levels and revenues at an all-time high, Philadelphia is experiencing a hotel renaissance of sorts. In fact, during the first six months of 2012, Center City hotels enjoyed 75% occupancy, the highest of any year going back to 2000 (the first year data is available), and an average daily rate of $171, according to Smith Travel Research. 2012 also heralded the arrival of new properties—with the Hotel Monaco Philadelphia and Home2 Suites Philadelphia still on the way—major upgrades and top-to-bottom renovations. Here’s a look at what’s in store for 2012 and beyond:
Shiny & New:
· Situated across from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, the Hotel Monaco Philadelphia debuts in October 2012 in the 11-story historic landmark Lafayette Building erected in 1906. The four-star boutique hotel will join Hotel Palomar as Kimpton’s second LEED-certified hotel in the city. Hotel Monaco features 268 sophisticated-yet-spirited guestrooms and suites and 13,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including the stunning 3,300-square-foot Lafayette Ballroom. Guests can refresh and indulge in the chef-driven Red Owl Tavern and be whisked away to the rooftop lounge for cocktails and light bites. 5th & Chestnut Streets, (855) 295-BELL, monaco-philadelphia.com
· Opening in late summer 2013, the $60 million Home2 Suites Philadelphia will serve extended stay guests and traveling families with 248 guest suites complete with kitchenettes—all located just steps away from the Pennsylvania Convention Center. home2suites.com
