MANSFIELD & RICHLAND COUNTY CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU ANNOUNCES MOHICAN WILDLIFE WEEKEND, May 2-4, 2008

Mansfield, Ohio - Visitors can experience bat and bird habitats up close and personal, try their hand at fly-fishing, learn first-hand how to photograph wildlife and more when they visit Mansfield and Richland County, the Loudonville area and Ashland County during the 7th Annual Mohican Wildlife Weekend, May 2-4, 2008. Mohican Wildlife Weekend is a celebration of the region's rich wildlife habitats, heritage and natural history.  Guests can visit more than a dozen locations, in Richland and Ashland counties, each offering distinct workshops, demonstrations and unique outdoor experiences that will interest beginners and experienced naturalists alike.  The event is a mixture of fun and educational events and experiences that are ideal for visitors of all ages.

Participating program sites include:
· Malabar Farm State Park
· Mohican State Park & Resort
· Gorman Nature Center
· Mohican Outdoor School
· Ohio Bird Sanctuary

Participating Organizations Include:
· Greater Mohican Audubon Society
· Byers Woods
· Kingwood Center
· Richland County Solid Waste District
· Mansfield City Outdoor Education

With more than 30 sessions being offered, the above sites will feature activities and events such as bird banding, gardening for birds, trail & shoreline hikes, building wildlife habitats, photographing birds, nature crafts, bluebird nest box workshops, wagon tours, bat & owl demonstrations, fly fishing demonstrations and much more. Registration is not required for any of the programs. However, some programs have limited space and are first come, first served.

Going Green - All five program sites feature various green credentials including geothermal heating/cooling, solar power, rain barrels, native plants, composting, wind and recycled building materials.

A Welcome Reception will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday night at Mohican State Park Resort. Saturday features a Chicken Barbeque at Mohican School in the Out-of-Doors, followed by a Barn Dance and stargazing at Malabar Farm State Park.
